There are two facets to this, one following the other.

First, a female human is born with specific characteristics. They are identified by the XX chromosome at the most basic level, and they have all the reproductive organs that this entails: womb, vagina, fallopian tubes, ovaries, eggs, etc. These parts might all not work, or might not all be there, but this pattern is on the body of the human female. And this pattern leads to the possibility, if nothing else, of getting pregnant and giving birth. No other pattern is there, and this pattern does not show up in the other sex, the male.

Secondly, all of those parts and pieces, from the genetic structure to the primary and secondary sexual characteristics to their sex-linked behavior, are part of the creation of what becomes and constitutes a full-grown woman. The development of breasts (too big or too small, before anyone else or after), the first menses (again, first or last in a peer group, or never arriving), choosing to follow the path to motherhood, unable to conceive, the fear of being raped. All of these things, and so many others I could not even guess at, are what it means to be a woman. Not a girl, but a woman.

I have been with my wife for a few decades at this point. I know her better than literally any other person on the planet. And yet, on an almost daily basis, she will casually let slip a simple fact of her life that I could not even guess at, from how she wipes her ass to the very real fear she felt crossing the threshold of my apartment for the first time. And, unless I am specifically let into these secrets, I cannot know them, as, due to all of those things that constitute the formation of a fully grown woman, I have never experienced those things, will never experience them. One can look to the specifics of these actions and see why they are different, but that would be to get lost in the ever-expanding minutia of subtle differences between the sexes. Suffice to say that they are real, constant and ever expanding in their scope. And, further, one should be clear that there is nothing wrong with any of these differences, they don’t speak to one of the two sexes being lessor or greater, only different.

A man who feels that they were “born in the wrong body”, that they should be in a woman’s body, has never been subjected to these two defining aspects of womanhood. And, no matter how hard they try to imagine what life would be like under these physical tenets, they are only doing just that: imagining. Making believe. Fantasizing.

Gender dysphoria is real. It is in no way as common as certain segments of society would have you believe, but it is a fact that needs to be delt with as compassionately and honestly as is necessary. I cannot guess what is going on in any other person’s head, and so I try to take them at face value. If they feel that, for whatever reasons, they were born in the body of the wrong physical sex, then I will respect that and allow them to move toward whatever choice they make to alleviate the problems with this, which I imagine are quite profound as far as trying to live. This does not mean that they are now female (or vice versa, in the case of trans-men) and should be allowed to enjoy and be protected by all that society has to offer that sex. They are not entitled to women’s only spaces. They are not entitled to participate in women’s only events. They are not women. Indeed, we have these special spaces and events due to society knowing that there are differences between the two sexes. If, over the last few millennia we hadn’t had divisions like this we wouldn’t be at the crossroads we are at now. And this shows up in every single human society, this division of the sexes. If any society has a derivation from this, it is to add a third class of people, though this is rare enough to remark on when it happens.

But if, as often claimed, gender is a social construct, then any definition of it is correct, due to it’s not being based on scientific fact. Gender, consisting of only two, or Gender, consisting of multitudes. Both as valid in a socially constructed milieu. And to take that idea to it’s end state, no genders. Which, if we are honest with ourselves, was once the point of feminism. But we have shot that idea down, the idea that there are two sexes, and they should be equal before the law, and as we are willing to replace women with men at the drop of a hat, so to speak, why did we bother at all with that nonsense?

And thus, we start to see the knock-on effects of blurring the lines between the two sexes. Not only is it destroying the actual and long-acting effects of those who are attempting to elevate the position of women in society, but we see men, in all forms, taking over these movements, invading the spaces we have carved out for women so that they are not harmed by the greater physicality of men who have gone through puberty. Which is the effect of being born with the XY Chromosome.

Many states and countries now move any male inmate who identifies as a woman, no matter that they have taken zero steps to physically affirm this, into a women’s prison, with predicable results: rape and pregnancy. Women’s shelters, full of people who we have sworn to protect, women at their most vulnerable, are now housing men who identify as women. And no matter how you try to slice it, every single one of these men has gone through puberty and has the corresponding effects upon their body.  Women’s sports, created to give women a level playing field at physical activity, has become a third area for this destruction, men who, once again, have gone through puberty with all said physical effects, are competing against women, and due to that physical advantage are winning.

If society is serious about there now being a third classification of people beyond the two we already have, then the only way forward is to create a third space, with all that would entail, and be necessary; trans sports, trans prisons, trans shelters and so on. This attempt to force people to deny what they instinctually know, and have always known, cannot end well for anyone. And, seeing the breaking point society is currently being pushed in the direction of, this cannot come to soon.

Earlier in this essay, I talked specifically about women, and not girls. Girls are children, still developing both physically and, even more importantly, mentally. We deny children all sorts of rights and responsibilities due to this, from purchasing alcohol and tobacco, getting a tattoo, buying a gun. And we sometimes push these things past the age of majority, due to our feeling of the severity of consequences due to misuse of these things. But, right now there is a push to provide definitionally life altering, irreversible access to drugs and surgeries that can “affirm” a trans questioning child’s supposed ideals. But, we are comfortable pushing back hard on things that have severe but reversible consequences. This is wrong, and indefensible. A child can wait, and if these things must be hidden from the primary caregivers, then those hiding this are wrong on every count of this issue. I don’t think this comes from a place of honesty, but rather a place of competition. Competition with other viewpoints, viewpoints which have been declared declassee, for lack of a better word. This is far past foolish, but moving into the realm of dangerous. For not only can a child’s life be destroyed, witness the countless tales of detransitioning, but others can see the effects that adults are pushing on these children, and it will destroy the very real need for children to learn from people who have gone before, who can guide them in life. You are destroying trust in the world, and not replacing it with health skepticism, but fear.

I don’t think this comes from a place of honesty, but rather a place of competition.

I think all of this comes from either a place of destruction or of fear.

Many of the people pushing this crap want nothing more than to tear it all down, as they say.

Many others are doing it out of an abject terror of being caught out wrongthinking.

One of the things I noticed was that much of this erupted right after Trump won the presidency. Sure, there were bits of it floating around, but it became one more point to differentiate anti-Trump.

      • rhywun

Yeah, Trump definitely lit a fire in the crazed brains of a lot of people. “Trump bad! Here’s some crazy while I’m busy shouting how bad Trump is!!”

        Still is, somehow.

  5. Don escaped Texas

I don’t object to the essay,

But, as I’ve asked here before, what about XXY, XYY, XXX, X, XXXY, and XXXX? The main thing we have learned in the past 30 years about genetics is that what a gene “says” or “marks” doesn’t mean that it will express at all. I’m not saying these aren’t rare mutations, but I am saying that many things are not as easy as I wish they were, and genetics is up towards the top of my list.

    • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

Dealing with genetic mutations is a fools errand if one is attempting to achieve clarity.

      • Don escaped Texas

        why so defensive?

any excuse is a good one if it getting in the way of simple answers is our goal…you’re better than that

        life’s complex….that’s okay

      • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

It isn’t defensiveness. We could just as easily be talking about people born with tails, six fingers or any other genetic mutation, and it would have the same effect on the end state; attempting tofocus a minority of a minority that, in general has no bearing on this conversation. No one has put forward any data that suggests that someone with an XXY chromosome structure, for instance, is now “trans”. In fact, when that rarity comes up, generally the body sorts itself out in some way. The person has internal sex organs, or external, and the world goes about itself as it always did. Most mutations are evolutionary dead ends, and this is no different.

Like I said, an attempt to find clarity via examining mutations is a fools errand.

      • pistoffnick

        …six fingers…

        Hallo!
My name is Inigo Montoya. You keeled my father. Prepare to die!

    • Semi-Spartan Dad

But, as I’ve asked here before, what about XXY, XYY, XXX, X, XXXY, and XXXX?

I don’t really understand why rare genetic mutations are relevant?

There was a girl born in the United States a couple decades ago with two heads on a one torso. Each head was independent of the other. Should we start teaching preschoolers that some people are born with one head while others are born with two heads?

Along the same vein, there was an interesting show not too long ago called Stan Lee’s Superhumans, where he sought out people with the wildest mutations and attempted to scientifically evaluate them. It was a mixture of hokum and people with real mutations that defy what we know about the human body limits. But a biology course shouldn’t throw out the Citric Acid Cycle just because a person has a mutation that lets them switch to anaerobic energy production.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

what about XXY, XYY, XXX, X, XXXY, and XXXX

What about them? Is society required to build separate rest room facilities for each genetic aberration?

    • trshmnstr the terrible

But, as I’ve asked here before, what about XXY, XYY, XXX, X, XXXY, and XXXX?

IIRC (from the last time this convo came up) two out of every 1000 babies are born with one of these types of mutations. Out of the few born with these mutations, the vaaaaaaast majority are very clearly male or female, albeit mostly infertile. The few intersex mutations are such a vanishingly small minority that it’s not worth wringing hands over them. If intersex people were an appreciable proportion of the trans movement, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because there would hardly be a trans movement.

        Wall of text:

        The common conditions per Wikipedia:

Klinefelter syndrome (KS), also known as 47,XXY, is a syndrome where a male has an additional copy of the X chromosome. The primary features are infertility and small, poorly functioning testicles. Often, symptoms are subtle and subjects do not realize they are affected. Sometimes, symptoms are more evident and may include weaker muscles, greater height, poor motor coordination, less body hair, breast growth, and less interest in sex. Often, these symptoms are noticed only at puberty. Intelligence is usually normal, but reading difficulties and problems with speech are more common.

XYY syndrome, also known as Jacobs syndrome, is an aneuploid genetic condition in which a male has an extra Y chromosome. There are usually few symptoms. These may include being taller than average, acne, and an increased risk of learning disabilities. The person is generally otherwise normal, including typical rates of fertility.

Turner syndrome (TS), also known as 45,X, or 45,X0, is a genetic condition in which a female is partially or completely missing an X chromosome. Signs and symptoms vary among those affected. Often, a short and webbed neck, low-set ears, low hairline at the back of the neck, short stature, and swollen hands and feet are seen at birth. Typically, those affected do not develop menstrual periods and breasts without hormone treatment and are unable to have children without reproductive technology.

Trisomy X, also known as triple X syndrome and characterized by the karyotype 47,XXX, is a chromosome disorder in which a female has an extra copy of the X chromosome. It is relatively common and occurs in 1 in 1,000 women but it is rarely diagnosed; fewer than 10% of those with the condition know they have it.

The others are far less common.

      • kinnath

And, none of this is actually fucking relevant to the topic at hand.

The woke are pushing the notion that physical attributes don’t define sex. They don’t even acknowledge sex using “gender” as a way of obscuring the topic.

To the woke, they only thing that matters is how a person “feels”. That, and they demand that everyone else bends the knee and accepts those feelings as the only truth out there.

I truly feel bad for those with gender dysphoria. Once the ‘social contagion’ aspect of it dies off, and it’s no longer the flavor of the week, the only people left will be those who really have it. They will then face additional skepticism and perhaps some opprobrium from everyone who remembers how it was used for malicious purposes and some will treat the genuinely dysphoric as potential grifters – or worse.

    • hayeksplosives

Your point about people truly suffering from gender dysphoria being likely to suffer future dismissal or contempt is a good one, and one that is rarely mentioned.

Kind of like Amber Heard just undermined the credibility of truly abused women.

  7. Semi-Spartan Dad

A child can wait, and if these things must be hidden from the primary caregivers, then those hiding this are wrong on every count of this issue.

Or even worse, the recent story where the father was threatened with prison (or maybe even was jailed) because he objected to his divorced wife from castrating his son.

    • hayeksplosives

Yeah the cases where the two parents disagree are going to get more scrutiny. And most divorces give more custody to the mother; there are rarely true 50/50 custody splits.

I could see this sort of thing ending up in prenuptial agreements.

Heck, lots of divorce decrees require agreement of both spouses on things like religious instruction, college, etc. Physically changing a child’s hormones and/or surgically altering them is far more profound!!

        LOL—kind of true!

In the 90s, the most popular Minneapolis destination for hen parties (bachelorette parties) was a bar called the “Gay Nineties” that had awesome drag shows, ranging from homely but very dressed up drag “comediennes” to truly beautiful and convincing-looking drag queen singers, models, and dancers. The emcee was a short middle aged man that was an absolute laugh riot and genuinely happy person.

No idea if any of them wished they were women. Most seemed pretty happy to be gay men.

(Disclaimer: us ladies attending wasn’t really cultural appropriation; the place had a few other floors that were understood to be for men to meet and hang with men and we never crossed that line. )

      • rhywun

I don’t think there’s really much crossover between that old crowd and today’s “activist” set.

As I mentioned once, one of Ru Paul’s drag queens once outed himself as trans and it was a HUGE deal. Most of them are just gay guys who like to entertain.

I’m not sure what to make of the craze today, but I have a feeling that most of them are playing out some act that they think is expected of them.

        cultural appropriation

Ugh I remember some bitching about that back in the day. I hated it. I welcomed all persuasions wherever I went. Some of my best friends were straight.

      • pistoffnick

I’ve been there with my ex-wife!

It was quite eye opening for a simple (and straight) country boy! If I remember correctly, you had to walk through the men’s restroom to get upstairs to the drag show.

There was a “lady” who did a very good rendition of “(Working at the) Carwash”. She had this yellow fringe dress that looked kind of like an automatic carwash brush when she twisted and twirled briskly.

      • pistoffnick

There were things going on in the restroom that I had never seen.

  10. Brochettaward

You’d think that the feminists would be more up in arms about the notion of men identifying as women and then adopting the most stereotypically feminine mannerisms and dress to showcase that identity to the world. Trannies are typically adopting the stereotypes feminists consider harmful to women, reinforcing everything they typically oppose. It further undercuts the notion that gender is a social construct. Why, look at these men who want to be women – the proof is in their skanky dress, over reliance on make-up, and don’t forget about the high heels…

I know, I’m not the first to point this out, but it is still one of the points that needs to be labored the most. There is no consistency to any of this. Someone said that it’s the sign of intelligence to be able to hold two opposing viewpoints in your head and still be able to function. I think it’s just a sign of a fully demoralized/propagandized brain these days.

    • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

The consistency is in the opposition. When you look at who is against, in a general sense, trans people, you quickly see who is “pro” trans. It really is that simple. You are absolutely right that in any other way people would normally be up in arms against this, much like the same people would be up in arms against blackface. But, as one group of people could care less about blackface, there is no need to be against it in some special way.

  11. Q Continuum

“This attempt to force people to deny what they instinctually know, and have always known, cannot end well for anyone.”

This is what they want. Authoritarians need you to know that the party line is bullshit and then make you repeat it anyway. It’s not enough to corrupt reality, they must also corrupt your mind and morals by forcing you to accept lies as truth, even when you know they’re lies.

  12. trshmnstr the terrible

Gender dysphoria is real. It is in no way as common as certain segments of society would have you believe, but it is a fact that needs to be delt with as compassionately and honestly as is necessary.

Amen. Treating people like shit because of a mental illness or any other “abnormality” is low class assholery. Compassion is not mutually exclusive to standing up for truth, though.

    • Mojeaux

IMO, gender dysphoria needs to be treated like body dysmorphia and eating disorders. You wouldn’t give a bulimic girl a table full of food and a barf bag and say, “Have at it, kid.”

      • The Other Kevin

Mrs. TOK and I have had this exact conversation with one of my kids’ therapists. But she wasn’t allowed to treat dysphasia unless the patient wanted treatment, and they are planning on designating it as no longer a disorder.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

One might that doing such to a bulimic girl would be enabling her in order to satisfy her momentary feelings without any consideration to her greater well-being.

IMO, it’s “spare the rod, spoil the child” writ large.

      • hayeksplosives

My brother, the gay rights activist for the last 25 years or so, was explaining to me:

You go to the doctor and say “Doctor, this arm just doesn’t feel like it’s part of me. Please cut it off.” The doctor explains that you have body dysmorphia and that he can give you some pills and get you into therapy, and then you’ll feel better.”

Or you go to the doctor as say “Doctor, this penis just doesn’t feel like it’s part of me. Please cut if off”. The doctor explains that you must actually be a woman inside and that he can give you some pills so that you’ll grow breasts. They can schedule the surgery to remove your penis after you complete some therapy.

        Dysmorphia is dysmorphia is dysmorphia.

      • rhywun

I think the difference is that the gender activists have successfully managed to confuse the general public into believing that they’re just another kind of “gay” – hell, a better, more tragic kind – and who has a problem with that any more.

I’ve known one person that I’d say fits in that category. Was midlife, had struggled for years, tried various avenues including getting married, until finally coming to a point of deciding to make the transition. Worked with him for years prior and had no clue of any of that until he penned an open letter to explain why he was undergoing the transition. And worked with her for several years after and she never mentioned her personal life at all.

Nice essay, Zwak. This quote seems a propos regarding Don’s question about the multiplicity of genetic mutations that can (and do) occur.

“When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control.” ~ Theodore Dalrymple

As I recall, she ended up leaving not too long after, got married to a jerk, and later ended up disabled with mental issues.

  17. Ozymandias

Whoa. Just saw this from Steve Kirsch. This will be appealed, but it could have sizable impact.

    https://www.skirsch.com/covid/LAUSDdecision.pdf?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

An LA Cty judge ruled that the LA Unified School District couldn’t mandate the Covid-19 vaccine and punt kids who wouldn’t take it. State law had pre-empted.
It sounds like the judge was gritting his teeth to do it, but the state law is clear – local school boards had no authority to maintain the Covid-19 “vaccine”. Legislature had pretty well determined there were 10 required and only the State’s health agency could add to the list AND for any vax beyond the 10, there have to be religious exemptions allowed.

Great find…too bad it takes 2 years to come to that conclusion

My guess is they slow walked it the whole way.

    Solid Article.

Shorthand Drunken Stoner’s Take: Don’t allow your children to mutilate their own bodies before they reach the legal age of adulthood and it’s beyond your power to stop it. If you allow it to happen under the guise of legal protections and social tolerance, you’re a weak willed, spinless parent. A fucking teenager, regardless of their intelligence, is a deeply, confused and impressionable creature. I sure as shit was despite my deeply held belief that I had figured the world out by then…I grow more confused by the year and I’m in my fourties.

But enough about the Highland Park shooter.

/seriously, WTF is up with that dude?

      • hayeksplosives

        That boy ain’t right.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he has some genetic/congenital defects.

Super widespread eyes, no chin. Obviously psychopathic. I’m sure they will claim he was “bullied” like that’s an excuse.

      • kinnath

In the past, he would have run away from home and become a carney.

      • rhywun

It’s no excuse but it is a thing.

Toss in the anti-depressants I heard he was on – “may cause anxiety and violence – ask your doctor!” and… well, who knows.

      • hayeksplosives

That would be a study worth doing: how many of these teenage and early 20s shooters were on anti depression, anti anxiety, or ADHD drugs?

But I see the new MSM narrative is to inflate “mass shootings” by including gang violence and familial murder-suicides, which, while tragic, are not the same phenomenon as these random “loner” killings, so I doubt we will get honest answers.

Banning guns is the MSM agenda, so nuanced reporting is right out.

      • Not Adahn

how many of these teenage and early 20s shooters were on anti depression, anti anxiety, or ADHD drugs?

Hopefully most? It shows that the behavioral issues were noticed and interventions attempted. Early 20’s are prime time for mental illness to manifest.

      • rhywun

Tucker was conspiracy-theorizing last night that the drugs might be causing more problems than solving.

He also rattled off a long list of shooters who were known to be on similar drugs.

I have seen the commercials where they rapid-fire the side-effects of these things and it’s like the side-effects are worse than the whatever they’re trying to “fix”.

Transwomen athletes like Lia Thomas plea their case by saying they just want to participate in the sport they love while being true to their real self. Trying to appeal to emotion.

I think it’s great that a guy can say “I’m changing my name and dressing as a woman from now on” without being run out of town on a rail, but the fact is, that person has a mental illness and isn’t automatically entitled to all the privileges (like competitive swimming as a woman) that he might have had if he didn’t have that illness.

Grrrr on some level, that person must know the destruction he/she is causing. But doesn’t give a shit anyway.

      • Gender Traitor

The destruction may be the goal.

      • hayeksplosives

Doesn’t that photo speak a thousand words??

    • The Last American Hero

We need more Lia’s. We need to completely fuck over womens sports at the collegiate and pro levels. We need to see scholarships handed out to dudes. And unfortunately we need tragedy to strike women’s prisons to where the men are mobbed and killed by the women. This virus has taken root and the only way it ends is when the tragedies become so commonplace that the soccer moms push back.

I don’t want to see womens sports destroyed or prisoners abused. But at this point the only way to change course is a string of events so sad and common that Karen stands up for her sisters.

I think I’ve told “You Peeple” before about my trans foster daughter*. She was born female, but always felt like she was a boy. With enough ace bandages she could pass for a boy. She is still with her highs-chool sweetheart. Her younger sister was a girly-girl: pink clothes, curled hair, lots of makeup, very feminine. I remember a Christmas-time road trip from Wichita to southern Minnesoda, we stopped at a rest stop in Iowa at 1 am. I sidled up to the urinal after filling the gas tank. She sidles up to the urinal next to me, and does her business. I was a little taken aback. We paid for gas and walked out like two bros.

I don’t fucking care if you suck dick or munch carpet, or do both. If you’re cool, I’m cool. It’s a wide world.

*She has been sober for several years now, owns her own home, lives with her girlfriend, and manages several restaurants. Her feminine sister has 3 different children by 3 different dads…

/I am still mad at their parents.

    • Q Continuum

“She sidles up to the urinal next to me, and does her business”

      How exactly did that work?

      • Brochettaward

They sell a number of devices for that.

      • hayeksplosives

I’ve seen sone such devices at camping stores and thought “Ok, so after you use it, what do you put it in to carry in your backpack? And how many wet naps do you use on your hands before eating after you’ve handled the device?”

(I don’t hike any more, but when I’m out shooting on The family farm or something, I squat with my back leaning up against a tree. I have no idea how I’d use a urinal. Heck, I struggle with mandatory random drug tests. I’d rather they draw blood than make me piss in a cup.

      • Brochettaward

I have far too much experience in my life peeing into cups.

      • Gustave Lytton

      I predict disaster.

      Fucking Karens.

    • rhywun

A picture would have been nice. In my experience there, most people don’t have room in front to park a car so everyone parked on the sidewalk and there was no enforcement against it that I could see.

Good morning, Sean, Tulip, hayek (if you’re still awake,) Stinky, and GL!

Got the most urgent gotta-do’s done yesterday at work, so with any luck, today will be easier. Except it’s my oldest sister’s birthday, and I haven’t yet found a hanging basket with a fuchsia plant for her. 🙁 (Best for attracting hummingbirds, in my admittedly limited experience.) I may do a commando raid on one or more big box home improvement store’s garden center after work.

      • Grosspatzer

        Why, thankee, ma’am.

Contra the Bro, you cannot outrun a thunderstorm. Best to give homage to Thor in advance lest you become a burnt offering.

      • Gender Traitor

I admit, I rather like thunderstorms (never having had a traumatic experience with one ::knocks wood vigorously::) During nighttime storms I’ll sometimes go out to Tranquility Base and watch the edge of the sky from the relatively safety (I hope!) of the cotton and wood futon chaise. (I THINK the patio roof and posts are aluminum, and therefore not likely to conduct lightning…)
