Saturday evening links of furry fury

by | Jul 16, 2022 | Daily Links | 191 comments

That’s what I’m talking about.

Some dude that calls himself, “Spud” pm’d me and asked if I’d cover the links. I said sure, even though Spud is a pretty stupid name compared to Combat Wolf Furry.

What is a CWF? Well, I’m a furry, but I’m a wolf furry. And I go into combat, bitches. That’s all you need to know.

Now let’s try this links thing.

I would just grab that little monkeypox with my tail, and choke the shit out of it.

Take down the Maga King?!? Good luck with that.

If you stuck with raw meat like I do, you wouldn’t have these problems.

As a furry, I fully support this.

As long as you keep it in the family, it’s totes okay.

Okay, this was entertaining, but it’s time to prepare for combat.

I like it not, and I have no intention of following this distasteful trend. #OldSchool #NakedPitsForever

(I can’t believe chicks would shave – or use whatever form of hair removal they use – their pubes but not their pits. Blech. 🤮

I guess I don’t care that much, but I have a deep suspicion it’s not — in fact — back.

$200 says not a single Hollywood starlet goes armpit hair fancy free in a blockbuster movie next year.

But it’s on the cover of Vogue!

      • hayeksplosives

The only “hit” movie where the lead chick had noticeable pit hair was Dances with Wolves, and since Mary McDonnel was being dragged off by her arm by a Souix warrior in that scene, it would have looked pretty silly if she were clean shaven.

Daily Harvest said in a previous statement to NBC News that it does not comment on pending or potential litigation. Daily Harvest emphasized, however, that it initiated a recall as soon as it received reports of customer illnesses, is working with the FDA to investigate, and reached out multiple times to customers who bought the lentil product.

Maybe it’s that lentils and leeks are disgusting?

Should I be concerned that our latest Fed is already hosting lynx?

Hey Tundra, off topic but so it goes. Anyway, I stopped by a garage sale today and found a record shop promo poster for Husker Du – Warehouse Songs and Stories for a buck!

The bulk of the racers are beginning to arrive from San Francisco. I went out to the end of the race give several boats a cheer. One boat asked for a pilot since they have a pretty deep keel and local knowledge can be helpful with the uncharted coral patches. I climbed aboard to give them a hand.

The even year race to Oahu from Long Beach ends at Waikiki amidst land/departing aircraft from the airport, buildings, traffic sounds etc. It is not Hawaii’s best welcome. THIS race ends passing tropical mountains, coral reefs, small islands, and a tropical vice US feeling. The crew had a decent passage but 13 days on a small boat is like eight living in a constantly moving and frequently wet master bedroom closet.

In the hour or so from the end of the race to work in and to the end of the Bay it was interesting to watch the crew. The ones who had never been to Oahu were like puppies on a family XMAS morning wanting to see everything on the way- and waiting to be let out the door and onto dry land. The skipper provisioned well and had small bottles of bubbly for everybody (including me) as we worked the length of the Bay toward the berthing. The “welcome” to Hawaii pitchers of Mai Tais were well received.

It was a fun few hours. I’ve got two years to see if I want to experience the race as well.

Deadly planet-killing emissions will choke us all to death

“If the Senate will not move to tackle the climate crisis and strengthen our domestic clean energy industry, I will take strong executive action to meet this moment,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden didn’t provide specifics on the kinds of climate action he would take, but climate advocates told CNN the administration should issue a mix of strong rules to cut emissions from power plants, vehicles and the oil and gas industry.

These nattering yahoos act as if the country is covered with smoke-belching factories from sea to murky sea. You’d think we were in England at the height of the Industrial Revolution.

Advocates are expected to put even stronger pressure on the US Department of Interior to stop oil and gas leasing on federal lands, which has become a politically charged flash point among Republicans and Manchin.

With Manchin’s vote no longer attainable, advocates told CNN now is the time to dial executive action and federal regulation up to 100.

“There’s no excuse now,” Varshini Prakash, co-founder of the Sunrise Movement, told CNN. “What I am looking for is a coordinated agency wide response at the executive level that is utilizing every tool and agency at their disposal to address the climate crisis.”

    “Advocates”

      • Grumbletarian

Sanders never did any of that. He was a unique combination of talent and humility. I wish more athletes behaved as he did.

      • Nephilium

Nick Chubb does nothing but hand the ball to the official after scoring. Per local reporting, one of his coaches told him that when you get to the end zone, act like you’ve been there before.

      • MikeS

For every coach who has had that quote attributed to him, there’s 100 players who have ignored it.

      • Grumbletarian

Nick Chubb does nothing but hand the ball to the official after scoring.

Is that so? Then props to him. I’m okay with spiking the ball, and high-fiving teammates, but that should be it. That said, I’m not a big fan of the taunting penalty either. Just wish there were fewer divas pro sports.

      • rhywun

He does not even appear to be covered with tatts from head to toe. I don’t know if I can take such an athlete seriously.

      • Tundra

        Walter Payton says wut?

      • Brochettaward

I want to see a highlight reel of all of his runs that didn’t turn into homeruns. The ones where he lost 5 yards and killed the drive. and which outnumber his explosive plays.

Sanders was one of the most uniquely talented athletes I’ve ever seen, but he was not the best football player or RB even of his own era.

      • Ozymandias

Sorry, Bro. That’s the myth Barry’s detractors always claim. I’m not saying he didn’t do that, and maybe even more than usual, but somehow he managed to be only the third back ever to reach 2000 yards in a season (in 1997).
And it’s worth noting that year he started out that season rushing for only 53 yards in his first 2 games… Then went 14 straight tearing the ass off of defenses – particularly LBs and Safeties – all over the league.
Barry was the shit. He was like having a wide receiver in the backfield, except he would run through 8 guys along the way instead of beating one CB.
Forget about his highlight reel runs, there’s an amazing video of interviews with the best defenders in the League of their day talking about being scared shitless if Barry broke through and came out you – because it was about 95% chance you wee going to get deked out of your jock.

      • dontreadonme

If there was a stat for RB who embarrassed the most defenders in his career, Sanders would be number one and nobody else would even be close. I remember the game where the Packers held him to zero or negative yards as one of the best games ever by the Packers since the 60’s. That should tell you something.

      • Brochettaward

If you asked a lot of NFL defenders, they feared playing Mike Vick because he could embarrass them in space, too. Of course, he ultimately put up like 150 passing yards and led two scoring drives all day…but there would be that one highlight play.

Even in that 2000 yard season, Sanders had a success rate of 46%. That ranked 16th that season. it’s why the Lions used to take him out in goal-to-go situations.

      • robc

Imagine if he had had a competent offensive line.

      • Grumbletarian

Not going to say that didn’t happen. Sanders still holds the record for most negative rushing yards in a career, and retired with the second most career rushing yards in NFL history.

Put Barry Sanders on the Dallas Cowboys in 1990 and Emmitt Smith on the Lions in the same year and have them play out their careers from there. I guarantee Smith would not have broken Walter Payton’s record. If Sanders had had a passing game and o-line akin to what Smith benefited from, Sanders would have run for 20,000 career yards, and Smith might have finished in the top ten for career yards.

      • dontreadonme

As a Packers fan I dreaded playing against him, but I respect now more than ever that he never celebrated a play. I would still watch pro football if even a quarter of the players emulated Barry Sanders.

What kind of town is Stillwater? The new pastor is moving from there (First Presby of Stillwater); her social media indicates she’s a Democrat. Do they even exist in Okla.?

      • hayeksplosives

Stillwater is very much a college town, and also a STATE college town. Lots of students who grew up on farms or had regular access to farms, guns, horseback riding, fishing, etc. One of the best veterinary programs in the country. It was in Stillwater that I learned how to harvest mistletoe by shooting it out of oak trees with a 20 gauge.

Most engineering students didn’t have a lot of spare time to party, but we did. Eskimo Joe’s is a famous haunt just off campus.

I haven’t lived in Oklahoma in a long time, but when I did, most Oklahoma democrats were to the right of blue-state Republicans .in fact the only Democrat I ever voted for was Senator Boren.

University of Oklahoma, on the other hand, wanted to be like the liberal Ivy League culture (lol). They even hired Anita Hill as a law professor after she tried to destroy Clarence Thomas with her made-up and inconsistent testimony.

Your acquaintance might be a democrat just because she’s a female professor, or she might be a True Believer who hates the “toxic masculinity” that country boys (and girls) embrace. Good luck.

That’s is almost exactly the same with the other OSU. Except the Republicans were dominant, albeit many were center left.

      • Gender Traitor

Perhaps their admissions standards have tightened up in the intervening years decades, but when I was college shopping back in The Dark Ages, the home of the Buckeyes had open admissions. I’ve always remembered the day my (public) high school classmates and I were standing on the steps of the local Catholic high school, waiting to enter to take the SAT. One of the gals in my class chose that moment to give us all a pep talk: “Don’t worry, everybody. If all else fails, there’s always Ohio State!”

      • Gustave Lytton

I would have said real OSU too, but its still Oregon Agricultural College in my heart.

      • hayeksplosives

To clarify, Republicans we’re definitely dominant at OSU. But honestly nobody really cared that much about politics. They weren’t so invasive back then.

The Oklahoma City bombing occurred on April 19, 1995 when I was at OSU. That caused a wave of USA! USA!! feeling, especially when students started showing up missing limbs, etc. Free ride scholarships were offered to every victim of the bombing, and to their children, regardless of age.

Man, that was a messed up time.

I’d always skipped over Old Forester as too far down the shelves, but this is quite good.

    • MikeS

I haven’t yet tried Old Forester, but there are some damn fine whiskeys on those lower shelves.

      • slumbrew

Szaerac Rye is very good, for the price.

      • MikeS

It’s not bad, but there’s something about it I don’t care for. For the money (or less) I’d go with Dickel rye.

        Hmmm…now I need some rye.

      • slumbrew

I’ll have to give the Dickel a whirl.

      • dbleagle

Tullamore Dew is another good lower shelf whiskey. It is a god one to break in new drinkers on since it is mild on the tongue.

      • Shpip

Dickel is one of many brands who outsource their rye to an Indiana company called MGP.

Bulleit, Angel’s Envy, WhistlePig, and Templeton are a few of the others. This doesn’t mean that the MGP product is rubbish, it’s not. Just that you’re paying for the label on the front of the bottle, not necessarily what’s inside.

FWIW, High West also uses MGP rye, but it’s what they do to it after they get their whiskey from MGP that makes theirs a premium product.

      • MikeS

It’s my understanding that High West’s own whiskeys are matured and starting to be bottled. I don’t know if they are completely off the MGP teat yet, but they’re working on it.

You mean that isn’t an Arab’s normal greeting? Gee, it looked so spontaneous! 🙄

      • Lackadaisical

I was just hoping to see the instruction card for Biden:

‘YOU fist bump guy in headdress’

Regarding last thread, someone mentioned plain beer vs. fancy craft stuff…

For me, craft beers are becoming more for special days/nights, German lagers are great for just a relaxing drink any old day.

I think they each have their applications and taste amazeballs (if you find the right one)

Watching the YouTube link posted above – Dutch farmers sprayed manure into government buildings? HAHAHA

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

Apparently they also lit hay bales on fire by the roads and buried fireworks in the middle of them so they would explode after a while.

I’m beginning to rethink my hatred of the Dutch.

    Morning everyone.

“Authorities have not said if charges will be pressed against Chambers for his latest run-in with the law.”
I’m not a lock them up and throw away the key kind of guy but they need to lock this guy up and throw away the key.

      • Sean

        Yup.

Good morning, Sean, Scruffy, Tulip, NA, Lack, and rhy!

Raining lightly here at Tranq Base, but I am not deterred. A few fewer birds, maybe, but still pleasant. Mainly means I have an excuse not to do yardwork today.

So…I guess it’s just laundry later.
